Hey everyone,
I hope that everyone had a very wonderful Christmas! Hopefully you each were able to feel the Spirit during the holiday and think of the Savior. I had a good time down here and was thankful to be able to call and talk to some of the family.
I'll start off with a miracle I had yesterday. Our cars were grounded, which means it is too icy to be safe driving so we can't use them until the roads clear up...so we went walking to our appointment and to see a few part-member families we haven't seen before. So our appointment fell through, which happens, so we are on our way back to the apartment and a bus pulls over and tells us to get on, it's free. (this is the second time this bus driver has picked us up for free...) So we get on and this guy tells us to sit next to him. Well he is more than a little drunk, which is somewhat entertaining, but really sad. We are ignoring his comments about our religion and such because he thinks we are a cross between Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses... So at the next stop a guy from Spain gets on the bus and sits by us. We start talking to him amidst all of the harrassment on Mormons and Spaniards, and we find out he has had missionaries over before and then lost contact with them, but we set up a time to go to his place a see him. Pretty amazing how that worked out so well. I was very excited.
One of our investigator families is doing alright,
they didn't make it out to Church, but came to the baptism of a member's daughter that evening. They enjoyed it alot. Elder Skabelund and I had a lesson with them on "putting on the armor of God" and for it I had everyone draw a person and then draw the pieces of armor on one-by-one and then we discussed what each could represent in our lives. It went really well and we set a stop smoking date with the husband for January 1. Pretty sweet! It was a good lesson.
Another investigator was having trouble because he is confused about the answers he thinks he has or hasn't received, so we read a few passages from the Book of Mormon, pointed out the peace that was in the room, talked about the feelings of the Spirit and let him watch the Testaments his own. He really liked it and it should have cleared up some of his concerns because he recognized that the peace came from the Spirit. We'll see just how much impact and progress it made on him when we meet with him this week.
For Christmas we went over to a young member family's home. We got to act out the nativity which they had costumes for. I was a shepherd, but I found a sword in the costume box, so I realized that it would be good protection from wolves trying to eat my sheep. What a good shepherd I was! haha. So I was a shepherd, but then we realized that there was no Joseph, so I then was designated Joseph because I was the shortest guy and Mary was a 4-year-old girl. So I was then Joseph with a sword too. It was really fun and we all had a great time. I'll include a few pictures.
Well everything here is moving along pretty well. No transfer call this morning, so Elder Skabelund and I will stay together in Fort Wayne for at least 1 more transfer. Thanks everyone for your support and I hope that you each have a wonderful week!
Love,
Elder Sam Miller
