Hey everyone,
This has been one of those great weeks out here in Indiana! The weather was
really warm for a few of the days, getting into the high 40's one day. Of
course, the next day it was about 20, but I take what I can get. Things have
been looking up here in Fort Wayne for our teaching pool and such. I did a
fast last week to ask Heavenly Father for the much needed help for the
people here. It was amazing that from that time on we have been able to get
new people to teach.
Last week I said that we were dropping one of our investigator couples. Well we went to the
lesson that night and the first thing they did was invite their 5 kids into
the lesson (something we had been asking them to do for a while) without us
even asking this time. It was really great. So we taught them all about the
Restoration of the Gospel and the importance of it. Some of the kids were
more into it than others. Their ages range from 17 to 5. You can tell that
they are a bit skeptical of the Joseph Smith story, but by the end they
liked it. We're meeting with the whole family again tonight.
They are still not liking the coming to Church idea, but with a few prayers and a miracle they'll come. I hope!
One recent convert from 6 weeks ago or so bore her testimony at a fireside called Why I Believe and it was great. She has such a strong testimony of the Gospel. Her best friend who brought her into the Church has
been such a bad example lately. Pretty cool to see that true conversion to the Gospel and not to people.
Last night we went to Family Home Evening for the Single's Branch that we cover. One of the members brought a friend with her who had investigated the Church a couple of years back. On the ride over apparently they were talking about it and the girl said that she wanted to get baptized. That is such a miracle. Her friend, Carolina let us know and so we set up an appointment for Saturday. Hopefully that'll work out.
With one family we read 2 Nephi 31 and talked about Authority to baptize. The husband then udnerstood that it meant we are the only Church to baptize for covenant and not just commitment. Pretty cool. He is praying specifically about it and we are excited for him to get his answer. His wife is a little slower and more hesitant, but I think that she will follow his example in praying. We have another appointment with them on Saturday. We also had a lesson with a Part-Member family. It was our first lesson with them and we took over a member of the Ward. It worked out great. The Mom, (like 80) had been less-active for about 10 years and only been a member for like 12 and the Son (like 50) has been a member a little longer than that and less-active for a little longer too. He had a messy divorce and such and he blamed it on God. The member we brought had an extremely similar experience happen in his own life and it was great to resolve some of those concerns. The man opened up ALOT. We taught them the Restoration and it went well. We have another lesson with them tonight.
We have a few others that we met and such, but I'll write about those next time if we have lessons with them. Things are going well. I'm pushing through the cold. I hope all is well back at home for all of you. Take care
and be happy!
Love,
Elder Sam Miller
