Hi Everyone,
Sorry it has been so long. Max's emails tend to be very short so I have to drag things out of him and accumulate emails before I have enough to write about him. Max now has his 3rd companion, Elder Garcia Cullen but is still in the Cuernavaca area. His companion is from Mexico and only speaks Spanish so Max is really immersing himself in the language. He loves it there with the exception that his area is really huge. He said there are busses and more busses. They take a bus to most of their appointments. He said that his area is so large that it would take him two hours to walk just to one end. (That kind of reminds me of when people say they walked 5 miles in snow one way to get to school). It may be an exaggeration but he said that they spend more money on riding the bus to and from and that it seems wasteful.
I had the opportunity to talk to Max on mother's day. We were on Skype (video conference) so I was able to see him while talking. He looked really good. Looks like he put on a few pounds.
To be honest I was nervous when I found out that Max was going to serve in Mexico because a) he doesn't like Mexican food b) he is a very picky eater. With all the walking he was supposedly going to walk, I thought he would be a lot thinner. But to my surprise he has enjoyed most of the food and gained a little weight. I was able to get a lot of questions answered while talking to him. Questions that I asked in emails that he never answered. He had the opportunity to talk to my mom, The Woods (Colleen & David and Kati, Karli, Sara, Jennifer & Diego) since we went to Queen Creek for Patrick and Kelli's baby blessing. It was a real good day. I thought I would cry, but I anticipated his call so much that I was relieved and happy when I heard his voice. Max informed me when I spoke to him on mother's day that he will be moving to Idaho when he gets off his mission he is going to work a few months with his previous companion in California then he is off to BYU Idaho for the spring 2012 semester. I think he was surprised by my reaction, (he thought I would be really sad) because I know that Max needs to make plans for himself once he is done serving his mission. But right now his focus is on his mission.

Max has been pretty busy, as I have told you before, I generally find out what he is doing by his pictures. He has enjoyed meeting many of the church members and I can tell that he is really growing fond of the people he is serving. (see the attached picture). He recently gave a talk in church encouraging the ward members to assist them all they can and lead people to Christ. They just recently had a ward activity, playing soccer, eating hamburgers/hotdogs inviting investigators and less active ward members. I must say this activity was right up his alley, especially because he played goalie and according to him he was wicked awesome at it. They have also had 3 recent baptisms and a family of 6 came to church that they had invited the previous week. HE LOVES THE PEOPLE!
I thought with Max gone it would be really hard, but for the most part (with the exception of Christmas) it has really been good. Sometimes I just miss hugging him. Otherwise, I am happy he is serving and losing himself in the work.
Sincerely,
Kim
